Overview

Provide construction loss control services and inspections to assigned customers in accordance with the department’s guidelines. Evaluate potential worker’s compensation, general liability, builders’ risk, and pollution exposures and make recommendations for corrective measures.

What You'll Do

  • Perform loss control surveys of contracted construction projects under the Statewide Educational Wrap-up Program (SEWUP). Occasionally, surveys of swing and graveyard shift activities will be required.
  • Evaluate potential worker’s compensation, general liability, builders’ risk, and pollution exposures and make recommendations for corrective measures.
  • These loss control survey reports shall meet SEWUP guidelines, including established department turnaround times.
  • Participate in owner, construction manager, and/or contractor meetings such as preconstruction meetings, special meetings such as steel erection meetings, construction manager/progress meetings, toolbox safety meetings, etc.
  • Confirm that construction contractors enrolled under SEWUP are implementing, at a minimum the following: site specific safety orientation, injury and illness prevention plan, heat illness prevention plan, hazard communication program.
  • Confirm that contractors possess the required permits licenses such as DOSH Project Specific Permits, DOSH Annual Permits, Crane Operator Licenses, DOSH Crane inspections, etc.
  • Provide technical assistance to owners, construction managers, contractors, and internal customers.
  • Respond effectively and promptly to specific safety problems or concerns raised by customers.
  • Provide claims oversight and assistance. Each claim within the loss control consultant’s geographic area of responsibility will be reviewed to ensure its legitimacy and to recommend corrective measures to prevent similar mishaps.
  • Identify and provide directions to medical facilities within the insurance carrier’s medical provider network.
  • All other duties as assigned.

What You'll Need

  • Minimum of seven (7) years of construction safety and health experience, including conducting onsite safety and health surveys and application of applicable safety regulations required.
  • Must have strong customer service, writing, presentation and communication skills.
  • Should be able to handle and prioritize multiple projects.
  • Must be detailed orientated and organized.
  • Compliance with state fingerprinting regulations is required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel. Adept at accessing business data from the Internet when required.

 

EDUCATION, LICENSES and/or CERTIFICATIONS: 

  • The ideal candidate will have the following, in addition to the minimum requirements listed above:
    • Bachelor's degree 
    • Any of the following professional safety certifications/designations:
      • Certified Safety Professional
      • Associate Safety Professional
      • Graduate Safety Practitioner
      • Safety Management Specialist
      • Construction Health and Safety Technician
      • Safety Trained Supervisor Construction
      • Construction Risk Insurance Specialist
      • Associate in Risk Management

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The job entails extensive fieldwork with traveling and walking, plus administrative office follow up as required. Overnight stays are required in some areas, and occasional in-state travel. This will include infrequent swing and/or graveyard shifts. The employee should be able to:

  • Frequently travel to client sites. 
  • Often walk up to five (5) miles a day over the school grounds and construction sites.
  • Often climb up steps, ladders, scaffolds, etc.
  • Regularly bend, stoop, kneel, crouch or twist to better identify hazards.
  • Withstand sun exposure for a number of consecutive days.
  • Reach overhead occasionally to materials stored on overhead shelves.
  • Occasionally move or lift boxes.
  • Frequently operate small tools and measuring devices (monitoring devices, tapes, screwdrivers, calipers, etc.).
  • Often type reports, correspondence and data entry.
  • Occasionally sit up to seven (7) hours a day at a computer workstation.

Compensation:

 

The target salary range for this position is $80,000.00 to $110,000.00 (US Dollar) annually. The actual salary will vary based on applicant’s education, experience, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. The salary may also be adjusted based on applicant’s geographic location. Hybrid work environment flexibility.
